The VA Salt Lake City Health Care System is the major referral center for the Intermountain West veteran population. The health care we provide ranges from basic primary care to complex surgical procedures.
Enrollment into the VA health care system provides complete and comprehensive care for the veteran. This comprehensive health care service requires that all patients have a VA primary health care provider. This provider coordinates each patient’s health care needs.
Medicine and Primary Care
The Primary Care program provides convenient, accessible, and comprehensive care that is coordinated by a team of health care professionals whom you may rely on for consistent, quality treatment. Examples of this are appointments for elective or urgent care, appointments with specialists or outpatient tests, procedures or surgeries.
Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOCs)
When outpatient treatment is possible we refer veterans to the closest and most appropriate VA health care provider, who may be at one of our Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOCs). In our medical center setting, major services that our patients need are available for specialty care and for more complex evaluation and treatment.
Specialty Care
All of our specialists, such as cardiologists, podiatrists, surgeons, and gynecologists, are located at the George E. Wahlen Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Salt Lake City. Your primary health care team will make the necessary referrals when you need a specialist. Our more complex imaging and lab tests are done in Salt Lake City.
