Mandatory Training for Without Compensation (WOC) Staff Homepage

The intended audience of this web page includes Faculty, Residents, Students, Volunteers, Contractors, Researchers and WOC Staff.

Individuals appointed to the VASLCHCS, both paid and non-paid, must be compliant with mandatory training required by The Joint Commission, the Occupational Safety Health Administration, and the Department of Veterans Affairs.  This website supports the mandatory training requirements for non-paid, or often referred to as “WOC Staff”. Types of WOC Staff appointed at the VASLCHCS are Residents, non-paid students, volunteers, clinical contractors, non-clinical contractors, and researchers.

Individuals appointed to the VA on WOC appointments are required to complete three web-based training programs:

  1. Choose either:
     
    1. Providing a Safe and Secure Environment for Health Care

      - or -
       
    2. Providing a Safe and Secure Environment for Health Care (Non-Clinical Contractors) (i.e., grounds workers, electricians, etc.)
       
  2. Information Security Awareness
     
  3. VHA Privacy Policy Web Training FY09

Note: You must choose the appropriate course in item 1 above.

Course Access: When you are ready to begin the courses, click on the title of the appropriate course above and you will be directed to the course and instructions.

Submission of Certificates: A copy of the Certificate of Completion for each of the three modules must be submitted to one of the following, whichever is applicable:

  • Medical & Dental Residents

    Send To: GME Office or as directed by the GME Office (Attach to the VASLCHCS Application Packet)
     
  • Medical Students

    Bring To: VA Human Resources Department, Building T5 (Attach to the VASLCHCS Application Packet)
     
  • Associated Health Trainees in ONLY: Nursing, Medical Assistant, Surgical Technology

    Send To: Annette Arata-Sanchez, Mail Code (05HL) (Return with your “Orientee Packet”)
     
  • All Other non-paid Residents, Associated Health Trainees and Students

    Send To: Program Director of your occupation (Include in the VASLCHCS Application Packet)
    (i.e. Social Work, Physical Therapy, Pharmacy, Psychology, Podiatrists, Optometrists, Dental Hygienist, etc.)
     
  • Research - Send To: Shawn Cochran, Mail Code (151)
     
  • Contractors - Send To: Dana "Dee" Simonich, Mail Code (04AA)
     
  • Volunteers - Send To: Belinda Karabatsos, Mail Code (135)

Please maintain a copy of the certificate in your own personal files in case you must show proof of completion.

Computer Settings: You can access the training website from your home computer using a Microsoft-based PC, and web browsers Netscape or Internet Explorer. However, you cannot gain access using an "Apple Macintosh", or the web browser "Mozilla Firefox". The computer MUST be connected to a printer. You may choose to use a VA computer. Computers in the VA library are available for your use between 7AM - 6PM Monday through Friday. Failure to take the required mandatory training will result in the granting or suspension of your computer access.
